i just got a (maybe) paid summer internship in cincinnati after graduation. it’s the salvation army, which is one of the biggest non-profits in the world. i’m assisting in donor relations, some marketing, newslettering and office bitching.

GRANTED, i still have to live at home and work at the UPS Store or some restaurant this summer…. but still…

i fucking rule.

it feels so good to know that i won’t be a post-grad loser.

that resulted in me making what i consider a pretty big change, especially at this point in college.

i’m 1/3 of the way through my junior year and i’m changing my major.

i was accepted into the e.w. scripps school of journalism in january of my senior year. i was ecstatic at the time, and i remained that way all through freshman year (maybe because i only took 2 100-level classes for my major). sophomore year i started having doubts. this year, those doubts grew until finally i dreaded going to journalism classes and dreaded signing up for more next quarter.

i don’t want to be a journalist. i know you can do a lot more with a journalism degree than just be a journalist but i don’t want to keep taking classes in something i don’t have passion for anymore when there is something out there i like more.

sociology is that something. i like studying people, especially groups of people. different societies fascinate me, and i like learning about why people do the things they do.

i’m sleeping on this decision for a night or two before i drop my journalism classes and pick up classes i’ll need for a soc major.

if you think i’m making a huge mistake, please keep it to yourself. this was a difficult decision to reach and i’m still not 100% sure about it. i just know i want to be happy.

 I wish I could have done what you have done. I’m rather jealous, really. I am not at all interested in journalism. I switched my sequence to public relations, just to get away from journalism classes. I ended up mostly loving PR, but it was an escape. Ideally, I wish I were an english/psychology double major because those are the two subjects that interest me the most. I don’t know what I’d do with those majors, but it’s not like I’m having an easier time finding a job with almost a journalism degree. Now, I’m not even sure what I want to do because I don’t want to go into journalism. All I can say is “I want to work for a non-profit in the realm of communication and programming” which means “I really like non-profit pr because other forms are evil, and I just want to write, promote something sweet and work at events.” That’s what I’m going to end up doing too, and maybe if I had followed my heart, and changed my major to english as a sophomore, I’d be a lot more sure of what I want to do with my life and my future. Instead, I’m going into an area of business I love, instead of into a CAREER FIELD I love.

tomorrow i have an “interview” for an internship i’m 99% sure i’m going to get. i shouldn’t be cocky though. it’s an unpaid internship, and i will be a probably be a graduate or super close to being a graduate when it starts and ends.

I got this pelvic bone tattoo because i love anatomy and medicine. i wanted an anatomical part and chose the pelvic bone because it is definitely the coolest shape- and the pelvic area is pretty cool too ;)
